Integrated Workflows · Digital + Physical

With the arrival and rapid adoption of computer-aided design (CAD) and digital fabrication technologies, designers and architects have shifted away from traditional physical creative tools and production methods. Thus, understanding the relationship between materiality and digitalization has become crucial for many design disciplines. Here, we focus on the use of feedback from digital and physical processes in architectural design.

We first review and discuss related literature from the fields of human-computer interaction (HCI) and architectural design by including works that implement digital fabrication techniques along with analogue design methods. Based on the literature review, we propose an alternative approach that integrates digital and physical workflows.
